About Hibernia Venture Labs

Hibernia Venture Labs is a venture group headquartered in Ireland, operating across the UK, Portugal, Spain, Bulgaria, Serbia, Egypt, and footprints in the GCC and US, all through subcos with their own distinct brands and management teams. Through its advisory, technology, product, and laboratory divisions, we build, invest in, and accelerate technology companies. We are looking for a Product Designer to lead design across our portfolio and internal platforms, bringing deep experience from a variety of customers, industries, and project types.

The Role

As a Product Designer, you will own end-to-end design across Hibernia Venture Labs' product suite and portfolio companies. You will set design direction, establish and scale design systems, and work as a strategic partner to product and engineering leadership. This is a hands-on leadership role: you will produce high-quality design work yourself while also mentoring junior designers and raising the bar across the team.

We expect you to bring a track record of shipping products across multiple customers, industries, and contexts. You should be comfortable moving between early-stage zero-to-one product builds and mature platform optimisation, adapting your process and fidelity to what the project demands.

We are an AI-native team. You will be expected to integrate AI-powered tools deeply into your workflow, from generative design exploration and rapid prototyping with Claude and other large language models to automated research synthesis, design critique, and documentation. This is not a nice-to-have; it is how we work, and we expect you to push the boundaries of what AI-assisted design can achieve.

Responsibilities

  • Own and drive product design across Hibernia Venture Labs' internal platforms and portfolio companies, from discovery through to delivery
  • Lead the design of complex, multi-product systems spanning web and mobile, ensuring coherence across diverse customer contexts
  • Establish, maintain, and evolve design systems in Figma that scale across products and divisions
  • Define and champion design standards, patterns, and processes across the organisation
  • Partner with product managers, engineers, and founders to shape product strategy, not just execute on it
  • Conduct and lead user research activities including interviews, usability testing, journey mapping, and synthesis
  • Use AI tools (Claude, ChatGPT, Midjourney, and similar) to accelerate ideation, content drafting, design exploration, research analysis, and iteration cycles
  • Leverage productivity and automation tools to streamline design operations and documentation workflows
  • Mentor and guide junior designers, providing structured feedback and supporting their growth
  • Present design work and rationale to senior stakeholders, clients, and portfolio company leadership
  • Conduct competitor and market analysis to inform strategic design direction
  • Contribute to pitches, proposals, and client engagements where design capability is a differentiator
  • Stay current with design trends, AI-assisted design workflows, and emerging productivity tools, and bring that knowledge into the team

Requirements

Essential

  • 3 to 5 years of professional product design experience, with a portfolio demonstrating work across multiple customers, industries, or product types
  • Proven track record of shipping products end-to-end, from early discovery and concept through to production-quality UI
  • Expert-level proficiency in Figma, including design systems, components, auto-layout, variants, variables, and prototyping
  • Demonstrated experience integrating AI-powered design and productivity tools into professional workflows, particularly Claude and/or other large language models, for tasks such as content generation, design critique, research synthesis, UX copy, or workflow automation
  • Experience using productivity enhancement tools (e.g. Notion, Linear, Miro, FigJam, or equivalent) to organise work, run workshops, and collaborate asynchronously
  • Strong systems thinking: ability to design coherent experiences across multi-product ecosystems, not just individual screens
  • Deep understanding of UX principles, interaction design, information architecture, typography, and accessibility
  • Experience conducting and synthesising user research to inform design decisions
  • Ability to adapt design process and fidelity to context: lean and fast for early-stage ventures, rigorous and systematic for mature platforms
  • Excellent communication skills: ability to articulate design rationale to technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Experience mentoring or guiding other designers
  • Comfort with ambiguity, context-switching, and managing multiple concurrent projects

Desirable

  • Experience in a venture studio, agency, or consultancy environment where you designed for multiple clients or portfolio companies
  • Experience building and scaling Figma design systems with tokens, theming, and multi-brand support
  • Familiarity with AI image generation tools (Midjourney, DALL-E, Stable Diffusion) for concept exploration and asset creation
  • Front-end development literacy (HTML, CSS, React, or similar) sufficient to prototype in code or pair effectively with engineers
  • Experience with motion/interaction design, micro-animations, or advanced prototyping
  • Understanding of B2B SaaS product patterns and enterprise UX
  • Experience with design ops: establishing workflows, tooling standards, and quality gates
  • Interest in or exposure to AI, venture capital, fintech, or deep tech sectors

What we offer

  • A senior role with genuine strategic influence across a portfolio of products and companies
  • Opportunity to shape design culture and process from the ground up
  • Exposure to a wide variety of industries, customers, and product challenges within one role
  • A seat at the table with product, engineering, and executive leadership
  • Access to best-in-class AI and design tooling
  • Mentorship of junior talent and the opportunity to build a design function
  • A collaborative, low-ego culture that values ideas over titles
  • Flexible working arrangements (remote-first with hybrid options)
  • Competitive salary and benefits, commensurate with experience
